Happy Birthday (Party) Carter Elizabeth!

I love celebrating Birthdays--I try to put a lot of thought and planning into the kid's parties. However, this year, I decided for Carter to scale it way back (so hard for me). We had a small party to celebrate her turning the big 3. Earlier in the week I got an email from the blow dry bar telling me that I had an appointment on Saturday morning. I learned that Jason had booked Carter and I hair appointments for the morning of the party so we would have pretty hair!

While we were gone Jason and Davis made the party cupcakes. Davis was a huge help according to Jason and was really into getting things ready for his sister's party.

Carter and I headed out to the blow dry bar. She has such a fear of strangers that I was concerned that she wouldn't want to let them dry her hair. She had already informed me earlier in the week she didn't want them drying her hair--but as luck would have it there were several other little girls inside getting their hair done for a wedding. When Carter saw the other little girls participating she decided it looked like fun!

This might be my favorite picture of the whole morning. She took it so seriously--she noticed that all the other ladies kept their eyes closed while their hair was being washed. She sat very still with her eyes shut tight while they washed her hair. My favorite part was when she reached over to hold my hand--she was fine getting her hair done-but wanted to make sure I was right there with her.

She got into it! A lady walked over with a cup of orange juice for her--I was a little surprised that they would know that she loved orange juice--oh no! they informed me that she had ordered it for herself! This cracked me up! So the lady had to take a few breaks to allow Carter to sip her orange juice!!!
This is her clapping as she is seeing how pretty her hair is looking!
I got to sit right next to her while they did my hair so she kept looking over and saying "Hi mommy!" waving at me! So sweet and so cute.

She fell asleep on the way home so I had to hold her while she took a nap so she wouldn't mess up her hair for the party!! It was actually perfect because I rocked her in her room--my parents took the rocking chair back with them so it was really the last time for me to rock her in that chair. A little sad to see it go but I needed the room for her big girl room.

Her and her baby, Evelyn, had matching outfits. I made Evelyn a shirt with a glitter "3" and my sweet MIL saved the day and made Evelyn matching leggings.

Mother nature cooperated and gave us perfect weather. The bounce house place sent us a bounce house that matched the color scheme! It was a great afternoon.

Sweet Aunt Lacey dressed in her doctor's coat so that she could do wellness checks on all the baby dolls. We had a station set up where she could listen to their heart, give them a shot, followed by a princess bandaid, and then a sticker for the mommy. I thought that Carter might think it was dumb but she got really into it--she knew it was Aunt Lacey but even after Aunt Lacey changed back into normal clothes she kept asking me "Where did Dr. Lacey go?!"

This sweetie joined us for the evening. Carter and her have been friends since the womb! Her birthday wouldn't have been the same without Hadley.

 She loved her special day!

Halloween 2016

Halloween 2016 is in the books! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Halloween! And the best part is that my love is starting to rub off on Davis! We had fun decorating the house this year--we started a Halloween village and I think it will be fun over the years to add a little piece here and there.

Davis informed me in August that he would like to be a ninja. We went to the Halloween Spirit shop right when it opened in August and he picked out his costume. Jason just happened to be out of town so we had to FaceTime in Daddy to make sure that he approved of the Ninja costume. Davis thought it was awesome and was so excited to get to carry around swords with his costume.

I had a lot of joy getting the two of them dressed. It took me back to my childhood when I would get in from school on Halloween and rush my parents through dinner so we could get out and trick or treat.
 My porch:

I figure this will be the last year that I can pick Carter's costume for her sadly. She looks and acts so much like her buddy Ryan that Ryan's mom and I decided that they needed to be a couple costume--Pebbles and Bam Bam it was! I have always made her costumes but this year I actually purchased it (what a huge stress relief) and when it came in I was in love. It was precious on her!

"Hey Davis! Pose like a Ninja for mommy"

The back of the darling costume:
We had friends meeting up with us to go trick or treating. We really hadn't talked about what the boys were going to be--both boys were over joyed when they realized they were both ninjas!

Our crew! This is my favorite night of the year in our neighborhood. Everyone meets up for a group picture before the kids all scatter. The big kids usually take off--and this year Davis was with them! I was in the back with Carter and Ryan bringing up the rear!

 Somebody snuck a kiss:

And Bam Bam was NOT happy about it!

The ninjas "dabbing" when I asked for a photo:

We have started hiring a food truck for Halloween night. This has worked out perfectly and it allows us to not worry about trying to feed the kiddos before we head out to trick or treat.

Driving Carter to school on halloween she informed me that she wanted to be a cat--so I told her she could be a cat next year. I will be curious to see if she sticks with that or comes up with something totally new. This was the first year that Carter really "got" trick or treating. She LOVED it--she really got into saying trick or treat and she really loved the fact that she got candy as a result.

Davis enjoyed playing swords and football in the front yard with the big kids when we were done trick or treating. Even though it was a bummer to have it on a Monday night--it really ended up being a non-issue. We let the kids play and stay up late and just all pretended it was a Friday! It was worth the slow moving Tuesday for the blast everyone had Monday night.
